I just happen to be making a game about a swordsman who has to defend himself from ninjas, and I think this song'll fit in well. I'll probably use this in my upcoming game, "Blind Swordsman".

Pretty cool, but like someone before me said, it sounds more sad than peaceful... Well, I guess that could be the same thing. This is the kind of song I'd expect to play after some huge battle with lots of bloodshed, but then there's finally peaceful times... but at a great cost.

I suppose it's not entirely misplaced in it's title, as it wasn't meant to be peaceful to be honest.
The original idea was for a desolate village, desolate in the meaning that it was barren, devastated, forsaken and deprived of life. As you said, perhaps indeed after a huge battle?
